One of the most significant mission initiatives we’ve supported this year is the Koinonia Camp, a powerful program for young people and families from refugee backgrounds.
Through our mission budget, The Collaroy Centre funded approximately 72% of the total program cost, ensuring participants could experience a safe, welcoming and enriching camp they may not otherwise have been able to access.
This wasn’t just financial support. It was partnership, purpose and compassion in action.
Why the Koinonia Camp matters
Many families connected to Auburn Koinonia have navigated:
- Forced displacement
- Trauma
- Language and cultural barriers
- Financial hardship
- A lack of safe community spaces
For young people especially, the opportunity to take part in a camp environment creates space for:
- Confidence-building
- Connection with peers
- Cultural pride
- Positive role modelling
- Rest, play and healing
How The Collaroy Centre made it possible
Our support included:
- Covering the majority of accommodation costs
- Supporting meals and activity fees
- Providing program access at a significantly reduced rate
- Ensuring a safe, culturally respectful and welcoming environment
- Offering flexible scheduling and staff support tailored to the group’s needs
This initiative demonstrates what mission looks like when it’s lived daily, through hospitality, generosity and practical care.
More than a sponsorship
The Auburn Koinonia Camp represents the heart of The Collaroy Centre’s mission: creating spaces where people feel valued, supported and able to belong.
We are honoured to partner with communities who show extraordinary resilience and strength.
